MONO creates awareness for recyclable, sustainable design. Polyamide PA-6 is recycled and reprocessed from old carpets and fishing nets. The material is versatile, so all elements of the backpack are made from it. Unlike conventional backpacks, MONO can be easily dismantled and recycled one day.
The recyclable backpack made from just one material
MONO can be separated easily into its three material components: textile, flexible and solid PA-6. Mechanical recycling requires no additional work and makes MONO an attractive choice both ecologically and economically.

The challenge was to create a backpack without conventional support materials. Therefore alternative methods to achieve shape and stability were needed. Going fast into full-scale prototypes, using fabric, tubes and cord were key to refine the mechanism and test its practicality.
